Five Ways to Start Saving Water

A drop of water causing ripples
Cause ripples in your future!

As a college student, it’s easy to get caught up in several responsibilities, such as the History report sitting on the desk in your dorm or making sure you get to work on time. With many priorities on our hands, we tend to lose sight of things we can be doing to reduce the wasting of water.

I consulted a member of TCNJ’s Environmental Club, Brian Peng, for the following four suggestions.

Tips to Start Saving Water

1. Reduce time spent in the shower.

2. Reduce the consumption of meat and other animals “given how much more water it takes to raise animals than to grow plants.”

3. Reduce the consumption of sugary soft drinks, as “the unnecessarily high sodium content prevents [one] from doing much to quench one’s thirst.”

4. Drink tap water to prevent the pollution of sources by plastic bottles.

5. When you’re preparing a shower or bath, gather the water that would normally go down the drain when waiting for it to warm up and use it to water your plants.

The last tip is from the site, Water Use It Wisely.

For more tips, Peng recommended visiting Water Use It Wisely, which features an extensive list of additional ways to save water.
