Cool Ways to Preserve Water

By Kareema Vernon

Water quality is an issue which does exist. There are many ways that everyone can do their part towards making water cleaner. Starting in their own backyards including this campus. As students, we play a big role in protecting the environment especially water. We use water each and everyday, and this makes it a priority. Therefore, without good quality water, there would be many issues which would arise negatively affecting our daily lives. The reality is that water is used for washing, storing, and most importantly drinking.

Drinking unhealthy water does have more risk factors then many people think. Many people do not realize that in many third world countries, one out of five deaths of children is caused by contact with unclean water. These bacteria and diseases in water do not only exist in third world countries but also here in America. This means that there needs to be a change in the way we manage the water system. Many students, for example, can begin doing small things such as using filters for their water instead of the pipe. This is one small step to insure that we are not consuming the possible dangers which could be found in H20.

Then many people could also try reducing their pollution of the water sources. There are students even at TCNJ who throw their trash in the campus lake and never think twice about it. This form of pollution is slowly ruining the water sources, so eventually there will be no more water to be used because it will all be contaminated. Contaminated water contains disease and this is what makes people sick and could possibly cause death. So, yes, there are a lot of fun things one can do even around their own campus to help preserve our water for the future.
