African World Press- Getting to Know Trenton and Ewing (Courtney T.)
The African World Press (AWP) is a private owned company located in the city of Ewing, New Jersey. This company was founded by Kassahun Checole, and has been in business since the year 1983, and provides literature, as well as other content, that covers different aspects of Africa. This includes, but is not limited to, the continent’s history, culture, politics, and even the African diaspora. They even cover African international fiction. Along with The Red Sea Press, which is also referred to as AWP’s “sister press”, it is considered to be one of the major Black news presses in the United States.
- AWP Takes On Social Media: Africa World Press is seeking to utilize social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, for which Checole is looking forward to increasing the company’s customer base and produce more books centered around more academic and popular written works.
- AWP’s Rise in Finance: During the year 2009, large cuts made within the classrooms as well as various school systems has impacted the Africa World Press, to which they have suffered financially, resulting in the company’s sales decreasing rapidly. However, they manage to pull through and create a road map to regain lost funds and more.
- Founder Kassahun Checole Powers Through Illness For Sake of Company’s Wellbeing: It is known that Checole has being dealing with a long term illness, which is currently unknown. However, he powers through each day in order to help the AWP company thrive.
