While the task of the Twitter scavenger hunt seemed daunting at first– to run around Ewing and TCNJ to find almost 10 Twitter stories– by the end of it, I realized how simple it can be to find a news story in your neighborhood.  From an outsider’s perspective, a student walking by wearing TCNJ apparel may appear like any college student.  However, if you initiate a conversation with a stranger, you quickly learn that each person has a different passions and stories to tell.  The scavenger hunt made me search for unique angles in things that I pass by every day, like Frutta Bowls.  To me, Frutta Bowls was just an ordinary shop that is popular amongst college-aged kids, but when I sat down and briefly interviewed the owner, Kim Arbia, I realized that it was also a community for all fruit-lovers.

The scavenger hunt also showed me how simple it could be to transform almost 10 ideas into full features and/or profiles.  Each of these tweets could be expanded into full-length stories; all that is needed is more information and more quotes.  Again, it goes to show how quick and easy it could be to find news stories within a small radius.  It doesn’t require much effort; just a camera and a different perspective.
