WHAT I PLAN TO BRING TO MY AUDIENCE

The demographic I am looking for when becoming a Journalist is a countless amount of diverse people. In order to be a journalist I must have an open mind in everything I write about and not be bias in any way towards one side of an argument or outlook than the other side. I must be balanced in my work and not agree and not disagree rather provide the facts and options of others. When speaking with John Oliver, the Liberian for The College of New Jersey I took a few notes from him on where I should find the audience that will relate most with work. We came to the conclusion that my man demographic as a writer right now is people who relate to the stories that would go on in my life. For example, I am a writer for Her Campus Magazine at TCNJ and the website relates to mostly teenage and early adult females. I also am a writer for The Signal which is the school newspaper at TCNJ and I work to write mainly for the sports column. So my audience would mainly be people who enjoy sports for people who are involved and have connections to the people playing the sports at the college. One thing I learned from the resources provided to me from John Oliver is when being a journalist my demographic will forever change depending on the story is presented to me and the topic I am writing about.

One of the most important things I have learned from my research is the type of characteristics employers look for in a journalist’s. Which includes:

-Ethics and Integrity: To be a journalist the number one thing you must acquire is honesty and truthfulness in the writing you work on. If you start to report and tell lies to your audience you work begins to be untrustworthy and false.

-Courage and Boldness: You must not be afraid to go out and get interviews and find your own research. As a journalist you must find your own stories which require you to be on your feet all the time looking for new and exciting stories.

-Communication skills: It is important for you as a journalist to able to speak and have conversations with coworkers and the people you are interviewing. You must be quick with questions and learn to ask the tough questions.

-You must acquire the 5 news values: impact, timeliness, province, proximity, and conflict.

JOB DESCRIPTION INCLUDES:

-Being able to gather information, write about news pieces and topics that are assigned to you and present the news in an honest and blanked manner. The role and responsibilities of a journalist include collecting, verifying, and analyzing newsworthy information. Also being able to write and deliver stories with the readers persecutive in mind which means not being bias in any way. Also being open to receiving assignments and writing about them.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Having a social media presence is the key to a successful employee. In todays society one of the main aspects an employer looks for is your presence on platforms throughout the internet. My social media platform swill be filled with the way I work and how I work. I hope to have social media platform that are a reflection and mirror to my career of being a journalist. Throughout the LinkedIn Learning courses as a class we have learned that social media platforms are what make a business and an individual become so successful. Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, Facebook, etc.

In order for my company to succeed and for me to become a successful journalist I must create social media pages for my business and promote by posting and engaging with my clients. My online reputation will determine my businesses success and how far it will go in the future. I must capitalize on platform opportunities meaning to make sure my pages stand out to the public. I have to go above and beyond and do everything in my power to reach out to my ideal client. For example, on Facebook I can go live and interact with my viewers. To uphold my online reputation, it will be an ongoing effort that will take a while. I need to be constantly updated my information and updating things that change within the business.

The goals I have for my online presence is to create my own personal brand statement which is a statement that merges my brand’s purpose and the needs for my ideal client. This will help me showcase my brand and let my clients know who I am, what my company is about, and what I am offering as a business owner. Also, I must show my ideal cliental my areas of expertise. As we learned in the LinkedIn learning videos you should incorporate three areas of expertise not your social media summaries or about pages. Meaning either having my personal brand statement, offerings, and my brand’s purpose in my bios. I must make sure my pages are a reflection of my business. Meaning I must incorporate and create portfolios and document my life including videos, photos, etc. Even on my personal accounts I will incorporate photos of my business and ways my business is still a part of my personal life. A major way to assure my online presence is by interacting with my viewers. I must keep tracking my data by engaging with my clients. Throughout the LinkedIn learning course, we learned that engagement is key. For example, commenting back to clients throughout my pages and always having follow up questions to their questions.

The online channels and platforms I will be using is as many social media outlines as I can including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. You can find people who have the same interest as you and what you are trying to accomplish. First, I will us the technique of Boosting. Boosting a post of Facebook is to get a message out on Facebook. When boosting I have to choose my audience meaning the categories of gender, age, locations, detail targeting, etc. This. Will help me find ideas and get into connect with people who will help me gain an advantage for my work as a writer.

A huge part to having an online presence is the frequency and how much it is updated.

I need to create a timeable approach for updates. This means I must evolve my pages as my company is evolving. I must be constant with updated all my social media platforms such as bios, photos, videos, etc. I must use the Quarter 2 and 4 strategy which is updating text entries including biographies, current position, summaries, experiences, about my stories, and the links I use. I need to be posting 2 or more times a week to make sure I am all being present on my pages. My pages reflect my work ethic as a writer.

SEO OPTIMAZTION

This is a plan to keep all my work organized:

THE RESOURCES

The resources I will use to become a successful journalist have been provided for me at TCNJ. For starters taking Professor Pearsons class I have created a LinkedIn learning account that’s provided me with many courses that I have learned and watched. Below is my LinkedIn Learning website which shows all the courses I have completed:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/emma-pascarella-9893a0220/

Along with LinkedIn I have also been enrolled in Introduction to Journalism and have learned APA style and the tools to set me up for future classes and a future job as a writer who needs to beak to write in the correct format and know how to obtain stories that need to be written about. All the classes, tools, and resources have been building blocks for me to become a successful journalist.

SUSTAINABILITY AND TIMELINESS

My social media platforms and wpbistess will constantly be updated and have information added to them on a weekly basis. All of the information that is being given out to the public is 100% reliable and filled with true information. All through my college life teachers have always provioded deadlines for assignments and I plan to carry on this tactic to my site. By creating deadlines I am showing future employers I am dedicated to getting the workr down. If I go over the deadlines I am proving that I am a lazy worker which I do not categorize myself to be.
