I choose to focus my pandemic project on the AIDS epidemic through the 1980s-90s. AIDS was wrongfully referred to at the time as the ‘gay plague’, similarly to how COVID-19 is being referred to as the ‘Chinese virus.’ The responses to both epidemics largely revolved around politics and were (and currently are) influenced heavily by the media representation of the virus.
