Jolie Shave and James Mercadante Scavenger Hunt

James and I embarked on the Twitter Scavenger Hunt of 2018 for JPW250 on the morning of Friday, October 10th. We spent the whole day exploring campus looking for pictures to fulfill each category and here’s what we came up with:

Favorite Place To Eat:

Spotlight on a Business Owner:

Culture Club:

Academic Excellence:

Scenic Spot:

Little Known Fact:

Top Three Favorite Tweets from Others:

Reflection:

I was honestly pleasantly surprised by this project. I’ll be honest and say I thought it was going to turn out to be tedious and annoying to have to go to different places and talk to people in such short amount of time. But when I was actually walking around outside, talking to complete strangers, asking them to take pictures, it was really cool. I got to learn little tidbits of stories about people and what they do.

The picture I posted of the research lab was taken by a premed student and I got to learn more about her aspirations. As it turns out, her father was in the military. So when she was younger, she knew she wanted to do something with or for the military, but not actively fight wars. She wanted to help. So she decided to become a doctor so she could become a medic and help wounded soldiers. I would never have learned this if it weren’t for this project.

The bigger picture is that there are so many people and stories that we overlook or miss the opportunity to hear. One of the reasons I wanted to become a journalist was because I love learning people’s stories. And this project affirmed that.

I do, however, wish that we were able to see what other schools were tweeting with this hashtag for this project. It would have been nice to get a perspective from someone outside of Trenton and Ewing.
