Greg Grant was born on August 29 1966 in Trenton New Jersey. Grant grew up in a dismantled home for most of his life and had to work for the things he wanted in life. In order to provide for himself and his family he worked at a fish market in his high school years. Despite standing at five feet seven inches and 140 pounds Greg turned heads at the local playground on the basketball court. Grant was recruited by Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) to play Division III basketball. Grant played point guard for the lions from 1986 to 1989. In his last collegiate season Grant led Division III Men’s Basketball in scoring. In the same year Greg Grant was drafted into the National Basketball Association. He was the 52nd pick overall for the Phoenix Suns. While in the NBA grant played a total of nine seasons for six different teams all over the United States. Besides basketball Greg’s passion was also helping the community in which he grew up in. Grant realized the struggles that inner city children like himself face on a daily basis and wanted to make their life easier. Thus, the “GGrant 94FT Academic Sports Academy” was established in 2004. This academy is a nonprofit organization that provides guidance in both the classroom and the basketball court for the children of Trenton. Later in his career Grant was named head coach of the Trenton Central High School Basketball team. There he led the 2013-2014 team to a 27-3 record, Mercer County Champions, and second place in the state tournament. He retired from coaching after five years finishing with a record of 100-32. - Career in the NBA– Despite tough upbringings and being a small player Grant was selected in the first round and played for many professional teams.
- Revival of Trenton– Grant’s academic and sports academy contributes to the revival of Trenton, by putting the future residents on the right track from an early age.
