Darian Scalamoni Interactive Timeline

I decided to cover the history of “Citizen Kane,” the Oscar-winning film from Orson Welles as my topic for my interactive timeline. As I covered within my final paper, “Citizen Kane” acted as a reflection on the life of newspaper tycoon, William Randolph Hearst. Over the film’s development and eventual release, Hearst condemned the movie and even the production company behind it to never be spoken of again in the Daily Variety. I thought that this is something that a novice should know because not only was this one of the most influential films in history but it’s a representation of Yellow Journalism at its peak.

I really enjoyed learning more about the journalistic background and effect this movie had. Orson Welles’ was credited by many to be a true lover of the press and the journalism process which is why he made this his first film. It had a much larger effect on the ways that journalism was portrayed later in film and led to other historical journalism films including “All the Presidents Men” and “Spotlight”
