Press History: Citizen Photojournalism

This is a timeline reviewing major events in press history, specifically citizen journalism. From Kennedy’s assassination to ISIS-occupied Syria, there have been many citizens who were able to capture a moment that professional media was not there to report on themselves. This timeline reviews the moments in history, as well as how they matter as acts of citizen journalism and their prominence in the practice. As technology advances, as cameras become more and more able to be handheld, simplistic devices and the internet grows even more accessible around the world, citizen journalism will rise.
