Eco Fashion or Kill the Planet

Fashion is one of the most important ways that people express themselves. A creative outlet to let oneself go and show their personality. In addition to creating your very own personal style. When people think of fashion they picture mainstream culture. This culture based fashion strictly off of fashion week. Fashion week’s main focus is staying in trend and nothing else. Therefore the economy is never considered so not many people are aware of Eco-fashion.

Dr. Webber a professor here at TCNJ whose focus is fashion decided to give her perspective on the popularity of Eco-fashion. When asked why people should wear Eco-friendly clothes she says they are better for the environment, for the wearer, and for people who make out clothes. She went on to say that there are fewer chemicals used in the production process of Eco-friendly clothes that will not end up in our water supply. Eco-friendly clothes is healthier for human beings and the environment in comparison to traditional fashion.

Eco-friendly clothes would be popular if they received the right amount of attention. If major labels began making environmental friendly clothes more people would known about it. People are also not aware that Eco-friendly clothes can be very fashionable. Dr. Webber noted a few designers saying it does take a lot of research but most are found online. Some brands she named was Patagonia and Reformation and she said their worth the money.

After all the research I have done so far on Eco-friendly fashions, I have personally become very interested in buying this clothing and supporting Eco-friendly companies. Dr. Webber had the best advice about Eco- friendly fashion commenting that these clothes are more expensive but buying fewer clothes of better quality and substance is the goal. As we all know our environment is important and if we should work towards making it better so we can have it forever.
