Every time that you go to your favorite search engine and type in the famous “www,” you are going to be directed to one of the Internet’s millions of webpages. Most of us know the basics of how to surf the web, but how many of us can honestly say that we know how these webpages tick? Well, every website, even popular sites like Facebook and Twitter, is constructed using HTML, the language of the Internet. Using strings of code, web designers are able to communicate with their computers, thus giving them the ability to weave the web however they choose.

What is HTML?
HTML, now currently in its fifth iteration as HTML5, is the foundation of every website, the bones of a digital body. HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, and it is composed of simple lines of code using markup tags. These tags describe the different types of content that are arranged in an HTML document. Similar to words and sentences, tags can be strung together to form the syntaxes of code that create an entire webpage.
