Voting Access for People Who Are Homeless

The State of New Jersey recognizes that the homeless population has the right to vote even if they are unable to meet the standard qualifications of defining their permanent residence, such as a shelter, street, or park etc.

The State Constitution guarantees a citizen the right to vote if they are of 18 years of age, and if that citizen has resided in their state and county for at least 30 days. The law does not require a person to have a permanent residence in order to exercise their right to vote.

If a citizen is homeless and they wish to register to vote, they are entitled to receive a form from the nearest applicable office.
