Reflection:

I learned that trying to get information for publications takes a lot of effort and patience. I have a newfound respect for journalists who hustle to get certain information and get quotes from people. I learned it’s uncomfortable asking people for their opinions on things and asking to take a picture of them or record a video of them, like how we had to do for this assignment. I had to run all over campus and brainstorm what I was going to do for each separate tweet. I also was worrying about who to ask, how I was going to ask without coming off as odd, think hard about the cutting edge technology TCNJ now has, and really get in touch with all the new news on campus. I was exhausted and frustrated after this assignment. I can only imagine how real journalists must feel after a long day of running all around their location trying to hunt down certain people to get quotes from them or try to arrange an interview with someone they need to do a story on. However, I observed that the majority of people are nice. When I first approached some people they were a little hesitant, but once I explained who I was and what I am writing for they relaxed and were happy to help. I feel like this would go for any journalist really, unless it revolves around a political issue or the demeanor of the journalist is abrasive. Overall, this was a very educational assignment and it taught me a lot about what journalists go through.
