Twitter Scavenger Hunt 2019: Lara & Natalie

After this experience, we have learned how to use Twitter to connect to the community around us in an effective way. Specific features of Twitter helped us to connect with peers and members of the community. For example, tagging our location on each post in our thread grounded the tweets to a certain area. Then, viewers of the tweet can also view other tweets in the area that are related. This is similar with the hashtag, which we used as well to see other related tweets from peers. – Lara Becker
Throughout this project, we not only learned how to cultivate my journalism and interviewing skills for social media but also how to bring a sense of community to those not necessarily in it. Social media is a powerful tool for those in the the news and journalism industries and it can be used to reach a range of people all over the world, niches, and communities of people is well. This project combined these two aspects as we created a sense of our community with the tweets for people who don’t necessarily live in it or even near it. – Natalie Matos
