Data Visualization for Disease Outbreaks in Different Regions of the World

October 31, 2017

Here’s my data visualization. I used public data from Health map.org and Harvard Medical School to compare the number of infectious disease outbreaks in each region of the world from 1996-2009.

The first data mashup compares number of outbreaks in each region.

Africa always has the most outbreaks.

Another way is to view the outbreaks in a map, so the reader can get a better sense of localized outbreaks.

The second compares average time to public communication.

Something must have gone terribly wrong in 2001 in the Western Pacific region. There is probably a story there.

Another compelling way to visualize it is with a moving bar graph. One can see the bar spike drastically when the timeline moves to 2001.
