Bonnie Watson Coleman is the current representative for New Jersey’s 12th congressional district, which includes parts of Middlesex, Somerset, and Mercer counties and also has notable cities such as Trenton and Princeton. Elected in 2015, Watson Coleman is currently serving her second term in the U.S. House of Representatives. She currently serves on two committees, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. She is also a member of many caucuses, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues.<\/p>\n

According to Watson Coleman’s website, wastoncoleman.house.gov, she served eight consecutive terms on the New Jersey General Assembly prior to seeking her current position. Some of her issues of focus include prisoner re-entry reform, environmental protection, and gun issues. According to ontheissues.org, a reliable source to determine the stances of various political leaders, Watson Coleman supports women’s choice to abortion, same-sex marriage, two years of free community college, voluntary prayer in public schools, the regulation of CO2 emissions, and the decriminalization of marijuana. She is an advocate against the ending of net neutrality, and opposes the Keystone XL pipeline.<\/p>\n

Bonnie Watson Coleman graduated from Thomas Edison State College and obtained honorary doctorate degrees from The College of New Jersey, Rider University, and Stockton University according to her website. She has three sons and three grandchildren.<\/p>\n
